What is Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is a high performance protective floor coating for linoleum, vinyl tile (VCT), and vinyl sheet flooring that utilizes multiple technologies to produce a hard surface that is resistant to scratches, stains, and marks.

What is “New and Improved” in Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector has been improved to increase soil and mark resistance, and to remove zinc from the formulation. Hand sanitizer resistance and gloss retention (gloss over time) have also been enhanced.

How do I know if a case of product I have is the old version or the “New and Improved” version?
Labels have been changed to make this difference clear. Box labels for the improved version are in color for quick identification, and the SKU number for the improved version has been changed to be 70-0715-9516-2. The NFSI logo also appears on the shipper label of the “new and improved” version product.

Can customers using the existing Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector switch directly to the “New and Improved” version?
Yes. There is no need to remove existing Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector. Simply scrub the existing coating to remove any marks/dirt, rinse, and apply new product.

How is Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector different than traditional floor finishes?
Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector may be used as a two-coat system rather than a 4+ coat system like conventional floor finishes. When used in this fashion, the 3M™ Resilient Floor Protection System allows for reduced chemical usage, increased operational efficiency, and quicker hardness development than traditional floor finish. If high gloss is desired additional coating layers may be needed, or if coating worn tile additional coats may be needed.

Can I use more than 2 coats of Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
Yes. Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector may be used as a protector (2 coat system) or as a high gloss coating by applying multiple coats until the desired gloss level is reached. Alternatively it is possible to apply Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector over the top of another coating to achieve a thicker total system and higher gloss. NOTE: only 4 coats should be applied in a 24 hour period. NOTE: Although Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector has been shown to be compatible with most acrylic floor finishes, compatibility cannot be guaranteed for all competitive products.

Can Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector be used as a high gloss coating?
Yes. Two coats of Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector will provide floor protection. Additional coats will provide additional protection as well as higher gloss. Please refer to the product technical bulletin for complete install instructions.

How does Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector compare to ultra durable floor finish urethanes?
Most ultra durable products are very difficult to remove, have long install times, require mixing, and are not easily repaired. Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is removable, quicker to install, requires no mixing, and is repairable.

What flooring surfaces are suitable for the application of Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector can be used on VCT, Sheet Vinyl, Linoleum, and Luxury Vinyl. IMPORTANT NOTE: Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is not intended for use on asbestos containing flooring materials. Ensure that the flooring you are working on does not contain asbestos.

What is the shelf life of Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
One year from date of manufacture. Refer to the packaging for specific dates.

What type of coverage can we expect per bag of Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
The recommended coverage rate is 2000 square feet per gallon. This would mean that one gallon should allow for two coats to be put on 1000 square feet of flooring or 4 coats on 500 square feet of flooring.

Are weather or floor temperature factors to consider when applying Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is robust over a wide range of environmental conditions. When floor or air temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, it is recommended that effort be made to restrict traffic on newly coated flooring for several hours after drying. If a facility has high air flow or low humidity conditions care should be taken to spread the coating more quickly as it can dry very quickly.

Are there any special storage considerations for Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector must be protected from freezing and/or excessive heat. Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector should be stored in environments where the temperature is between 40°F and 90°F. If Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is stored in environments outside of that range, clumping may occur and the product should be discarded and replaced.

Will this product perform after freezing and thawing?
It is recommended that if product is known to have been frozen that it be discarded and replaced.

Can Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector be used outdoors?
Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is not tested or approved for outdoor use.

Can Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector be applied with a traditional string mop?
Yes.

Is Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector hand sanitizer resistant?
Yes. Scotchgard™ Resilient floor protector is more sanitizer resistant than traditional acrylic floor finishes (when compared to leading competing traditional acrylic floor finishes, based on 8 hour exposure.) Depending on the sanitizer, some white discoloration may be observed (especially on tile that is very dark), but the coating maintains its integrity and level of protection of the floor.

When and why doesn’t Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector have to be stripped?
Thick films of traditional acrylic floor finishes allow for deep embedment of soil. When used as a two coat system, the fully integrated hard surface of Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector allows less soil to be embedded. When recoat is necessary, scrubbing can remove the entire thickness of the coating, effectively removing all embedded soil. The use of a single refresher coat maintains protection and ensures that coating thickness is not built up over time leading to soil that is not easily scrubbed away.

If Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is taking a long time to dry, what can be done?
Most often this occurs for one of two reasons: coating thickness, and environmental conditions (humidity, temperature, and airflow). Coating application coverage should be 2000sf/gal to obtain ideal coating thickness. If excessive dry times are observed, check to make sure that the protector is being applied at the recommended rate. Additionally note that it is important that every application be allowed to dry fully (i.e., not tacky to the touch) prior to applying an additional coat, or hazing can occur.

What if I want to use Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector as a topcoat over another product (in a scrub and recoat application)?
If it is desired to use Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector as a top coat, it is recommended that the floor be fully stripped and rinsed followed by the application of 2-6 coats (depending on desired gloss and starting tile condition) of LM-25 and 2 coats of Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector. If the floor is not to be stripped of old finish, it must at a minimum be well scrubbed using a 3M™ Surface Preparation Pad and water and thoroughly rinsed prior to application. NOTE: Although Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector has been shown to be compatible with most acrylic floor finishes, compatibility cannot be guaranteed for all competitive products.

If Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is not compatible with an existing acrylic floor finish that it is coated over, what will the floor look like?
Although this should be rare, when coated over an incompatible product, the second coat of Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor protector will haze and have a splotchy appearance in this case. If this occurs you should contact your 3M representative for guidance.

How does Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector compare to Ecolab’s MAXX Durable?
MAXX Durable is a two part system that requires 5 coats and has a “pot life” after which any unused product must be disposed of. Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is a single part system. Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector has no “pot life” so it does not have those limits.

Does the product contain zinc?
No. Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector is formulated without zinc.

Can you recoat Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector with a traditional acrylic floor finish?
Yes. There is no need to remove the Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector if a customer chooses to switch to a traditional acrylic floor finish.

What is the best way to keep Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector looking good?
Use of the Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector as a system with the complete protocol of recommended 3M™ floor care products is the best way to maintain the appearance of the floor. This includes using appropriate 3M™ cleaners and 3M™ cleaning pads, appropriate burnishing pads and frequency, and following recommended scrub and refresh frequencies. As with all floor coatings, frequent and effective cleaning, and proper walk off matting is the best way to prevent the degradation of appearance.

How often do I need to recoat the floor with Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
This will vary greatly with the volume and type of traffic. Typically in low traffic environments 1-2 times per year, medium traffic environments 2-3 times per year, and high traffic environments 3+ times per year. At minimum it is recommended to scrub and refresh the coating at least once per year.

How often do I need to clean the floor with Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
Daily cleaning is recommended. An autoscrubbing program will provide the best results.

Is burnishing required to cure Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
No, a burnisher is not required to install or cure Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector.

If the customer does not have a burnisher, can they still use Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
Yes, the system will provide protection; however, Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector will give best gloss results in accounts that have a burnishing program in place.

Are there certain cleaning chemicals that should not be used on this product?
Do not use any products containing 2-butoxyethanol (butyl), bleach, amines, solvents, citrus (d-limonene); only use a neutral cleaner, as high or low-PH cleaners may damage the coating surface.

After pre-burnishing, burnishing “stripes” remain on the floor. How can they be removed?
The most common cause of this phenomenon is that the burnishing pad is not applying consistent pressure over the surface of the pad. Customers should contact the manufacturer or their distributor to service equipment. Burnishing after equipment has been serviced should eliminate the “stripes”.

After applying the Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector, some areas are glossier than others, like “stripes”. What happened?
Stripes after application are often caused by thick and thin sections of coating. This can be prevented by making sure applicator pads are evenly wetted with product and by using a figure eight pattern when applying.

How do I remove Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector from the floor?
Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector can be removed using standard floor stripper. When removing from linoleum, be sure to use a linoleum safe floor stripper.

Can I remove fine scratches and improve gloss of Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector?
Fine scratches can be removed from Scotchgard™ Resilient Floor Protector and gloss can be improved by intermittently burnishing with a Scotch-Brite™ Purple Diamond Floor Pad Plus, followed by burnishing with a 3M Tan Burnishing Pad 3400.
